Prof. Dr. Peter Benner receives membership certificate from acatech
Election to the German Academy of Science and Engineering based on outstanding scientific achievements in applied mathematics
CDS member Prof. Dr. Peter Benner , Managing Director and Head of the Department of Numerical Methods in Systems and Control Theory , has been admitted to acatech – the German Academy of Science and Engineering. The certificate was presented at the members' meeting on October 20, 2026, and the new members introduced themselves.
Prof. Peter Benner's research areas include model reduction as well as the regulation and optimal control of dynamic systems, and he combines mathematics with technical applications.
The foundations of mathematics are the basis of many developments in engineering and AI. The goal of his research is to strengthen these foundations in order to enable more reliable and robust processes, for example in AI-based predictions .
With his group, he develops digital twins for sustainable technical and chemical processes, which are relevant, for example, for the conversion and storage of energy.
