Trailblazing research on data-driven materials science

25.10.2024 -

The BiGmax research network has investigated how data-driven approaches can be used for breakthroughs in the discovery of new materials. These breakthroughs are necessary for sustainable economic development based on renewable energy and carbon-neutral industrial circular processess.

The discoveries of the MaxNet on Big-Data-Driven Materials Science (BiGmax, 2017-2023) laid a basis for further development. Instead of summarizing their achievements the scientists developed a " Roadmap on Data-Centric Materials Science” published in the journal Modelling and Simulation in Materials Science and Engineering. CDS member Prof. Peter Benner director at the Max Planck Institute Magdeburg, and Prof. Matthias Scheffler from the Fritz Haber Institute of the MPG, headed the BiGmax network together

"It is now common belief that many breakthroughs in discovering new materials are necessary, in particular for a sustainable economical development, based on renewable energies and circular carbon-neutral industrial processes. In BiGmax, we have studied how data-driven approaches can be leveraged for such breakthroughs, and in the "Roadmap" we devise ways on how to achieve this in future work.", says Prof. Peter Benner
