Scientific breakthrough in chemistry

The team led by CDS member Prof. Dr. rer. nat. habil. Dieter Schinzer from the Institute of Chemistry of the Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg have succeeded for the first time in synthetically recreating the naturally occurring active ingredient disorazol Z1 using a highly efficient process. It is the the world's first total synthesis of this highly active natural compound.

10 million euros for research into sustainable chemical production

Die sehr erfolgreiche Arbeit des Forschungszentrums Dynamische Systeme (CDS) an der Otto-von-Guericke-Universität Magdeburg kann fortgeführt werden. Das Wissenschaftsministerium Sachsen-Anhalt hat dem Forschungszentrum 10,9 Millionen Euro aus Mitteln des Europäischen Fonds für Regionale Entwicklung (EFRE) zur Verfügung gestellt.

Peter Benner took over the office of the executive director of the Max Planck Institute for Dynamics of Complex Technical Systems Magdeburg on January 1st, 2025 for two years. The changeover takes place every two years. He follows CDS member Prof. Dr.-Ing. Kai Sundmacher, who held the office since 2023.

From the molecule to the complete system

CDS member Prof. Dr.-Ing. Kai Sundmacher works at the Max Planck Institute for Dynamics of Complex Technical Systems in Magdeburg and at Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg. He particularly enjoys creative scientific work in application-oriented basic research. “For me, being a scientist means having the freedom to think of new ideas in a wide variety of directions and to conduct research with an open mind. We have to make active use of this freedom and this is something that is made possible in Magdeburg,” explains Kai Sundmacher.
