New Members of the CDS
Prof. Dr. rer. nat. habil. Hana Bunzen and Prof. Dr.-Ing. Dr. rer. nat. Simon Stephan have been inducted as new members of the Center for Dynamic Systems (CDS).
Prof. Dr. rer. nat. habil. Hana Bunzen is Professor of Inorganic Chemistry at Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg. She completed her studies in 2008 with a Master's degree in Chemistry in Prague and subsequently earned her doctorate in Finland. Parallel to her PhD, she worked as a researcher and doctoral student at the University of Jyväskylä in the field of supramolecular gels. Following her doctorate in 2013, she spent over four years as a Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Augsburg, where her research focused on metal-organic frameworks and coordination polymers. Starting in 2018, she led a research group for coordination materials for medical and environmental applications as an Assistant Professor. Since April 2025, Prof. Bunzen has been conducting research at Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg on functional inorganic-organic hybrid materials to address global challenges in the areas of healthcare, environmental sustainability, and clean energy.
Prof. Dr.-Ing. Dr. rer. nat. Simon Stephan is Professor of Heat and Mass Transfer at the Institute of Fluid Mechanics and Thermodynamics (Faculty of Process and Systems Engineering). From 2009 to 2015, he studied Mechanical Engineering with a specialization in Energy Technology at TU Dresden, graduating as a Diplom-Ingenieur. He earned his first doctorate (Dr.-Ing.) at TU Kaiserslautern in 2020 and completed a second doctorate (Dr. rer. nat.) at RPTU in 2023. During his initial doctoral phase, he worked as a research associate at the Chair of Thermodynamics in Kaiserslautern. This was followed by postdoctoral positions in the Molecular Systems Engineering Group at Imperial College London and at the Chair of Thermodynamics and Thermal Process Engineering at TU Berlin. Starting in 2021, he served as a Junior Professor of Molecular Thermodynamics at TU Kaiserslautern before joining Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg in October 2025.
We extend a warm welcome to Prof. Hana Bunzen and Prof. Simon Stephan to the Center for Dynamic Systems and look forward to their new impulses and our future collaboration.
