Renewable Raw Materials

As part of the research area Renewable Raw Materials especially plastic waste and biogenic residues are to be made useful as renewable raw material base for the chemical industry.

For this purpose, a new generation of process engineering production processes must be developed, which makes it possible to produce reliable products of high quality out of waste streams. Challenges are caused by the complex composition of the source materials, which generally are subject to temporal changes.

The development of flexible process systems, which ideally can adapt autonomously to changing process conditions due to active feedback regulations, is equally necessary as the increased use of computer-based methods during the goal-oriented development and optimization of chemical processes and process control concepts, to drastically reduce the experimental effort.

Such computer-based approaches can similarly be used profitably on the molecular level for the efficient development of innovative products (e.g. new fine chemicals, new active substances).
