Drone technology at Cochstedt Airport
In the hangar of Cochstedt Airport, scientists and startup companies are researching and developing drone technologies that are to be used for transporting and locating people or danger spots.
The Startup entrepreneur Fabian Binz aims to create new transportation possibilities through drones. CDS member Prof. Dr.-Ing. habil. Sanaz Mostaghim is involved in the research. She and her colleagues focus on the topics of swarm intelligence and artificial intelligence. To ensure communication between drones, Prof. Mostaghim and her colleagues program algorithms that are subsequently tested in Cochstedt. The communication between the drones makes it possible to combine recorded images from different drones, which will simplify locating people in impassable terrain.
The DYNA think tank at Otto-von-Guericke-University Magdeburg and also the German Aerospace Center (DLR) are involved in the project. Other potential partners from the region could be the electric motor manufacturer Krebs & Auchlich and the Barleben-based company M4P material solutions GmbH.
