Prof. Dr.-Ing. Kai Sundmacher receives the 2023 Research Prize of Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg

22.11.2023 -

CDS member Prof. Dr.-Ing. Kai Sundmacher, 58, Director at the Max Planck Institute for Dynamics of Complex Technical Systems Magdeburg and holder of the Chair of Systems Process Engineering at Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg, was awarded the 2023 Research Prize of Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg for his scientific achievements on November 21, 2023.

The goal his research is to create the basis for efficient, cost-effective and climate-neutral manufacturing processes for chemical products. In current projects, Kai Sundmacher is researching new chemical, physical and biological processes that can be used to convert carbon-containing waste materials, biomass or even carbon dioxide into valuable products. The focus here is also on reducing the energy requirements of chemical processes. Kai Sundmachers current research focuses include the model-based analysis and synthesis of complex process engineering processes, chemical recycling processes, methods of process intensification and process integration, processes for chemical energy conversion as well as biosystems technology and synthetic biosystems. The 2023 research prize, endowed with 5,000 euros, was presented during the academic ceremony at Otto von Guericke University.
Kai Sundmacher was appointed to the Chair of Systems Process Engineering at Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg in 19999 and has been Director and Scientific Member at the Max Planck Institute for Dynamics of Complex Technical Systems since 2001. He is one of the spokespersons of the Magdeburg Research Center for Dynamic Systems (CDS). Kai Sundmacher has received several awards for his research results.
