CDS Progress Meeting on the topic of Key Technologies
The last CDS Progress Meeting of the winter semester 2024/2025 took place on January 15th. The CDS members Prof. Dr. Peter Benner and Prof. Dr. Thomas Richter moderated the event.
Prof. Dr. Robert Altmann from the Institute of Analysis und Numerics (IAN) of the Faculty of Mathematics Fakultät für Mathematik was the first speaker of the day. His talk "Energy-based Modelling of Dynamical Systems" was met with great interest by the audience and encouraged discussions.
Prof. Dr.-Ing. Benjamin Noack from the Institute for Intelligent Cooperating Systems of the Faculty of Computer Science inspired with his talk on the topic "Sensor Fusion for Particle Tracking and Other Applications".
Afterwards the partcipants could exchange ideas about the talks over coffee and cookies. The speakers were available for questions during the coffee break and provided deeper insights into their research. The CDS Progress Meetings will be continued in the following semester.
Replacing fossil raw materials
Together with multiple research partners CDS member Prof. Dr.-Ing. habil. Kai Sundmacher wants to develope procedures and processes for an emission-free chemical industry, which is based on sustainable resources and renewable energy and whose building blocks can be continuously reused in a circular economy, with the reserach initiative „Smart Process Systems for Green Carbon-based Chemical Production in a Sustainable Society“ (SmartProSys) .
Prof. Dr. Jan von Langermann is co-spokesperson of the DFG research group DESMOL2PRO
8 researchers from Germany and Austria join together as FOR 5730 "Customized Deep Eutectic Solvents for Biocatalysis – a circular approach from molecular interactions to process parameters – (DESMOL2PRO) ", to investigate the use of application specific adjusted solvents to increase sustainability and efficiency of enzymatic processes.
Using enzymes and reaction engineering to modify PET depolymerization
Polymers are from great importance in the various applications. This results in a large ampunts of plastic waste. The main contributer is polyethylene terepthalate (PET) due to its wide applicability. Thus, recycling strategies are being highly researched, with the aim to make the re-synthesis of PET without any significant loss in product property possible and to close the carbon cycles.
