Prof. Peter Benner admitted to acatech – National Academy of Science and Engineering
CDS Director Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Peter Benner was elected as a member of acatech, the German Academy of Science and Engineering, by the General Assembly in October 2025. Prof. Peter Benner is Director at the Max Planck Institute for Dynamics of Complex Technical Systems in Magdeburg and Head of the Department of Numerical Methods in Systems and Control Theory.
Latest findings on cell death mechanisms in focus at the 31st ECDO Conference
From October 7th to 10th, 2025, around 250 researchers, clinicians, and students from 22 countries met in Berlin for the ECDO conference. The 31st annual meeting of the European Cell Death Organisation (ECDO) was held under the motto "Classic Meets Modern – Functional Specificity and Crosstalk of New and Old Types of Cell Death".

CDS spokesperson Prof. Dr.-Ing. Kai Sundmacher, Professor at the Otto-von-Guericke University Magdeburg and Director at the Max Planck Institute for Dynamics of Complex Technical Systems Magdeburg, was awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of Chemical Technology and Metallurgy (UCTM) in Sofia, Bulgaria, on November 5th, 2025.

Sohini Kar-Narayan takes up her position as the new director at the Max Planck Institute in Magdeburg
Prof. Dr. Sohini Kar-Narayan will take up her full-time position as the new director of the Max Planck Institute for Dynamics of Complex Technical Systems and as a Scientific Member of the Max Planck Society with effect from October 1, 2025. The materials scientist heads the new Materials Systems Engineering department and brings her expertise in the field of functionalized materials systems and devices to the Magdeburg institute.
