Dr. rer. nat. Léa Chuzel awarded the Otto Hahn Medal

22.06.2023 -

Former scientist at the Max Planck Institute Magdeburg Dr. rer. nat. Léa Chuzel received the Otto Hahn Medal of the Max Planck Society on June 21, 2023. She was honored for her achievements as a PhD student at the Magdeburg MPI in the field of bioprocess engineering.

Léa Chuzel established a comprehensive workflow that enables the discovery of new enzymes that can act on glycans. Léa Chuzel's work "demonstrates the utility of functional metagenomics to identify precise enzyme specificities to solve problems in glycobiology and glycoanalysis. The use of this very powerful method can help identify new classes of enzymes that act on glycans, reveal unusual enzyme specificities, and yield new tools for glycan analysis," said the supervisors at MPI Magdeburg, Dr. Erdmann Rapp and  Prof. Dr. -Ing. Udo Reichl, CDS member, about the results of the doctoral thesis.
The medal, which is endowed with 7,500 euros, was awarded to 29 young scientists for outstanding achievements with regard to their doctoral thesis.
