From the molecule to the complete system

CDS member Prof. Dr.-Ing. Kai Sundmacher works at the Max Planck Institute for Dynamics of Complex Technical Systems in Magdeburg and at Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg. He particularly enjoys creative scientific work in application-oriented basic research. “For me, being a scientist means having the freedom to think of new ideas in a wide variety of directions and to conduct research with an open mind. We have to make active use of this freedom and this is something that is made possible in Magdeburg,” explains Kai Sundmacher.

Replacing fossil raw materials

Together with multiple research partners CDS speaker Prof. Dr.-Ing. habil. Kai Sundmacher wants to develope procedures and processes for an emission-free chemical industry, which is based on sustainable resources and renewable energy and whose building blocks can be continuously reused in a circular economy, with the reserach initiative „Smart Process Systems for Green Carbon-based Chemical Production in a Sustainable Society“ (SmartProSys) .

Prof. Dr. Jan von Langermann is co-spokesperson of the DFG research group DESMOL2PRO

8 researchers from Germany and Austria join together as FOR 5730 "Customized Deep Eutectic Solvents for Biocatalysis – a circular approach from molecular interactions to process parameters – (DESMOL2PRO) ", to investigate the use of application specific adjusted solvents to increase sustainability and efficiency of enzymatic processes.
