Research team of the Max Planck Institute Magdeburg honoured with Environmental Award from the state capital Magdeburg

16.11.2023 -

At November 16, 2023, CDS Member Prof. Dr.-Ing. Kai Sundmacher, Ronny Tobias Zimmermann, M. Sc., Prof. Dr.-Ing. Jens Bremer, Bianka Stein, and Markus Ikert, all members of the Department of Process Engineering of the Max Planck Institute for Dynamics of Complex Technical Systems Magdeburg, were awarded the first place in the category "Research" of the Environmental Award from the state capital Magdeburg.
They were honoured for the invention of novel core-shell catalysts for the load-flexible operation of future Power-to-X processes. Because of the optimised catalysts the reactor temperature can be lowered, which has various advantages. The optimised catalysts consist of a catalytically active core surrounded by an inactive, porous shell. The core-shell Catalysts are easy to manufacture and therefore enable the development of efficient, safe and cost-effective reactors and processes. The first place in the "research" category is endowed with prize money of 2,500 euros.
CDS Member Prof. Dr.-Ing. Kai Sundmacher is Head of the Process Technology Department at the Max Planck Institute for Dynamics of Complex Technical Systems Magdeburg. He specialises in the sustainable chemical conversion of raw and residual materials, the storage of renewable energies, power-to-X technologies and modern concepts of the bioeconomy.
The Environmental Award for renewable energies and climate protection of the state capital Magdeburg is awarded for innovative and exemplary utilisation and generation of energy, but also for the development and implementation of future-oriented projects and initiatives in the areas of climate protection and climate change.
